Beconase AQ is a brand name for beclomethasone dipropionate, a steroid medication used to treat allergic reactions.
How It Works
The active ingredient in Beconase AQ is beclomethasone dipropionate. It is a corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effects. This drug can reduce swelling in parts of the body like the nose, and make breathing easy by causing the immune system to produce less mucus in response to environmental irritants.
Beconase AQ is mainly prescribed to treat allergic reactions that occur seasonally or annually. This medication is effective in reducing symptoms such as running nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, stuffy nose, itchy throat and so on. In some cases, Beconase AQ may be prescribed to prevent nasal polyps from returning after removal surgery. Beconase AQ is also effective in reducing swelling in the nose that can make breathing difficult.
Dosage will vary depending on the form of Beconase AQ you are using. A doctor may prescribe a dosage depending on the condition that requires treatment. You must carefully follow the prescribed dosage without increasing or decreasing it on your own.
Read the information leaflet for patients provided with the packaging of Beconase AQ. Examine the illustrations that show how to properly use the medication with a device like an inhaler or a nasal spray. If any of the instructions are not clear, ask your doctor or pharmacist to clarify.
Beconase AQ is applied to inside the nose, usually as a spray. Apply one or two sprays as instructed by your doctor to each nostril. The medicine is usually used twice a day.
When spraying in the nose, take extra precautions to avoid getting Beconase AQ in the eyes.
Before spraying, gently blow the nose to remove any debris. Shake the container well before each use. You may need to prime the pump until it gives a fine mist.
When spraying one nostril, close the other one by pressing down with your finger. Avoid spraying directly on to the middle wall of the nose that separated the nostrils. Do not spray into the mouth through the nose either.
After applying, breathe in gently through the nose, and breathe out using your mouth. Repeat all directions for each nostril.
Do not blow your nose 15 minutes after application.
Beconase AQ may cause the following side effects:
Dryness or irritation in the nose or throat
