Ditropan is an oral medication which is used to treat issues related to the bladder and urinary tract. The medication helps prevent urinary incontinence, hyperactive bladder, urgent necessity to urinate and recurrent urination, increased necessity to urinate especially in night by reducing muscle contractions take place in the bladder and urinary tract.
How It Works
This drug helps relax smooth the muscles of the urinary tract which results in reducing the frequent necessity to urinate. It inhibits the contractions of urinary muscles by blocking the process of muscarinic receptors which indirectly helps decrease the frequency of urination.
Dosage of Ditropan depends on the instructions of your medical advisor. You should make sure that you follow the instructions properly. The normal dosage given to adult per day is 5mg two to three times per day and it should be taken with water. However it can be given in increased dosages up to a maximum amount of 5mg four times a day. This can be taken with food or without. The tablet should not be damaged or smashed due to any reason as it is supposed to be taken fully.
When you take any medication, you should be aware about your overall health condition as any of the illnesses or circumstances you go through may interact with the medicine and create harmful complications. Some of the conditions that you should inform your doctor include narrow-angle glaucoma which has not been treated properly, any obstacle visible in the digestive tract or bowels, difficulties in urinating, liver related complications, kidney issues, Parkinson’s illness, disorders in nerves that disturb heart rate, blood pressure or digestive process, muscle complications etc. Ditropan is not usually unsafe to an unborn baby or a breast fed baby. However, it is safer if you inform your condition to the medical advisor if you are expecting or nursing.
This drug is not recommended to be used by children under 5. If you are given a particular dose, make sure that you stick to that particular dose. In the elderly, those who are suffering from autonomic neuropathy and angle-closure glaucoma should take this drug carefully following the medical advice properly. This drug could worsen hyperthyroidism, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, hyper tension, prostatic enlargement, arrhythmias and tachycardia.
Ditropan may result in various side effects which may be mild or dangerous. Therefore when you start taking the medicine, you should keep an eye on what you go through.
