Florinef is a medicine that belongs to a medication class termed corticosteroids. It usually comes as a tablet which should be taken orally. Addison’s disease and adrenogenital syndrome are the main two conditions that are treated with Florinef.
How It Works
As Florinef is a corticosteroid, it acts on kidneys as a substitution for cortisone by reducing the sodium loss when the production is inadequate. As above diseases cause less production of steroid hormones in the adrenal glands, Florinef works to help reduce salt loss, enhance potassium loss, and uplift blood pressure.
The usual dosage of Florinef given to an adult per day is 50micrograms to 300micrograms. However the dosage may differ according to the recommendation of your medical advisor depending on the condition of your illness. Therefore, you should always make sure that the given instructions on the dosage are properly followed.
If you are going through any of the following conditions, you should not use this drug, without being properly advised by a medical care provider.
If you have any allergy symptoms towards any of the ingredients in the medication
If you have any fungal infection which is systemic
If you are planning to get a smallpox vaccination done
You should not suddenly stop taking this medicine without any medical advice as it may cause adverse health outcomes in your body.
When you take any medication, you should make your medical advisor aware of all the health issues that you currently go through and if you have any significant medical history. Therefore, being precautious before taking the medicine is very important to avoid unnecessary health issues. If you wish to make any changes to the dosage, make sure to consult your physician first.
Be advised if you are:
Expecting, planning to have a baby or nursing a baby
Taking any dietary supplements
Allergic to any food or medicine
Planning to be vaccinated for any viral infections
Having kidney issues, liver related problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel obstructions, ulcers or surgery
Suffering from chicken pox, herpes, or measles
As all medication may cause side effects, Florinef too has certain side effects. However, it is a fact that many of those who take this medication have no or very general minor effects which are not dangerous. Anyway, if you observe any of the side effects, you should contact your medical advisor and see if any medication is necessary. If the side effects seem to be unmanageable and severe, immediately seek medical care. If the side effects are manageable but haven’t cleared up after a few days, it is still advisable to seek professional advice.
