This is a medication used to promote wakefulness. It treats excessive sleepiness.
How it works
Modafinil is thought to work by altering several chemicals in our brain, stimulating wakefulness. This is an agent for oral admission and is a racemic compound.
The drug act as a selective weak, atypical dopamine reuptake inhibitor. DRIs block the action of dopamine transporters. Modafinil is used to treat several different disorders such as; narcolepsy excessive daytime sleepiness and shift work sleep disorder.
Modafinil has wake promoting actions similar to that of sympathomimetic agents including amphetamine and methylpheniate.
This medication helps you stay awake during work house if you have an unusual work routine and reduces extreme sleepiness. This medication is not to be used to hold off sleep when people do not have a sleeping disorder.
There are several dosage amount in Provigil for different sleeping disorders.
The usual adult dose for Narcolepsy is 200 mg orally, every day, usually in the morning. The adult dosage for hypopnea syndrome is also 200 mg, daily, once a day. The usual adult dosage for shift work sleep disorder is 200 mg daily, one hour before your work starts.
For children less than 30kg, 200-340 mg one a day, on a daily basis. For the children more than 30 kg; 300-425 mg once a day, daily.

Black or starry stools
Chills or fever
Fainting and dizzy spells
Changing of moods
Serious allergic reactions side effects;
Swollen lymph nodes
Consult a doctor immediately if you experience any of the common allergic reactions.
Don’t administer Provigil if you have had an allergic reaction or a skin rash. Let your doctor know if you are currently taking any other medication, as this may give room to an allergic reaction.
Let your doctor know if you have chest pains, liver diseases, kidney diseases, a heart problem, a history of addiction to drugs, blood pressure or have recently have had a heart attack before you take Provigil.
Do not take Provigil if you are going drive or do anything that requires alertness as this medication affects the central nervous system. Avoid other dangerous activities till you’re used to this medication.
Provigil can also make birth control less effective. Several forms of birth control may not be enough for you to prevent pregnancy during your treatment, talk to your doctor about the other ways of birth control you can use.
It is not known whether this medication passes onto breast milk or could cause harm to a nursing baby, le your doctor know if you are breast feeding a baby.
It is also unknown whether it could harm pregnant women, so it’s always advisable that you consult your doctor if you are pregnant.
This medication is not approved for use by anyone that is under 17 years old.
