How It Works

Rhinocort contains budesonide, which is corticosteroid hormone. Budesonide functions as an anti-inflammatory drug in the body. When certain foreign substances, like dust and pollen, enter our bodies, the immune system reacts by producing symptoms like coughing and sneezing intended to remove the foreign substance. Budesonide can decrease the immune response to these foreign agents, which results in decreased symptoms of conditions like allergies. Rhinocort is particularly effective in decreasing nasal congestion caused by allergies.

Rhinocort is mainly used to treat nasal congestion, sneezing and runny nose, commonly caused by seasonal and common allergies. Some doctors may prefer Rhinocort to prevent reemergence of nasal polyps following surgery. Rhinocort may be prescribed for conditions other than mentioned above.

Rhinocort is not a cure for allergies. It relieves allergen-caused symptoms so affected individuals can go on about day to day life and sleep better.

This medication does not contain alcohol or scents. This spray can block 6 types of allergens, according to the manufacturer.

Dosage of Rhinocort may vary depending in physician recommendation.

The recommended dosage of Rhinocort for adults and children above the age of six is 64mcg per day. That is 32mcg dosage per nostril. Dosage may be increased from the recommended starting dose.

Maximum dosage of Rhinocort for individuals over the age of 12 should not exceed 256mcg per day. This dose should be administered in four sprays per nostril. Maximum dosage for children under the age of 12 is 128mcg per day, administered as two sprays per nostril per day.
