Sumycin is an antibiotic prescribed to treat a number of bacterial infections in adults, children and animals.

How It Works

The active ingredient in Sumycin is tetracycline hydrochloride, an antibiotic agent known to be effective against a vast variety of bacteria and some parasitic microorganisms. Tetracycline hydrochloride is effective against both Gram positive and negative bacteria (that is, bacteria with and without cell walls). This antibiotic drug can prevent the bacteria from synthesizing essential proteins. This prevents the bacteria from multiplying and spreading across the body. Unable to reproduce, the bacterial cells naturally die out or are killed off by the body’s immune response. This results in complete recovery from the infection.

Sumycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic effective against many varieties of bacteria with only a few exceptions. It’s considered a first line treatment against Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, psittacosis, Chlamydia, mycoplasma pneumonia, meningococci nasal infections, and the rare Q fever. The drug is even known to be effective against so-called “exotic” infections such as the plague, anthrax and brucellosis.

Sumycin may be prescribed in combination therapies to treat malaria and balantidiasis caused by types of eukaryotic parasites.

Dosage of Sumycin will be based on how the prescribing physician recommends it. A doctor will take in your medical history, age, type of infection and weight before determining the appropriate dose. The doctor will then tell you how to take Sumycin and for how long you should use Sumycin.

Follow the dosage instructions of your physician exactly as prescribed. Do not increase or decrease the dosage level without seeking medical advice first. If you experience severe side effects, a doctor may advise you to take the drug in lower dosages and gradually increase the dose.

You should take Sumycin tablets by the mouth. Swallow the pills who without crushing or breaking them in any way.

The typical maximum dosage of Sumycin is 500g per day. Do not exceed this dose unless a doctor advises you to. Taking Sumycin in higher doses could increase your risk for serious side effects.
