Urispas is a brand name of a generic drug called Flavoxate. It belongs to the group of antispasmodic drugs. Each tablet consists of 100 mg of flavoxate hydrochloride.

How It Works

The active ingredient flavoxate hydrochloride is a muscle relaxer. Urispas works by easing the muscles in the wall of the bladder. Sometimes, when these muscles contract it can cause intense spasms which in turn causes you to pass urine very often than normal. It can also lead to painful urination, involuntary passing of urine and inflammation in the urinary tract. By relaxing bladder walls, this medication is able to regulate muscle contractions and lessen spasms.

Urispas relieves pain during urination, lessens the number of times and urgency of the need to pass urine and stops urinary incontinence. These symptoms usually show up after the use of a catheter.

The usual dose for adults and children above 12 years of age is 200 mg 3 or 4 times per day. The dose can be decreased with signs of improvement in the passing of urine.
